I am not a big fan of Mr. Pope or the Catholic Church in general. In this news release from CNN Mr. Pope is telling us to forsake technology in favour of spiritual pursuits.
Of course he is. Is there any institution more hypocritical than the Catholic Church?
He knows that many of his followers are in desperate condition in some of the poorest nations on earth and by God he intends to keep them that way. Because the poorer and more ignorant a society is the more likely it will be religious.
Is it any surprise that the most secular nations on Earth are also the most economically, socially and technologically advanced?
Mr. Pope knows only too well that if his ignorant followers are educated in the ways of technology they will soon discover that technology will change their lives for the better at the expense of his preponderance and financial bottom line .
The Pope, like any other despot, needs control and power feeding his ego. Any outside influence, such as Technology, threatens his empire.
